Living Up to the Encore Name

Outside of Urban Encore I conduct a youth orchestra at the Olympic Seventh-day Adventist Church. Occasionally, we organize community engagement events, such as singing for people in a nursing home. Because of my passion for community engagement, one of the leaders at the church asked me to speak about Urban Encore.

During my presentation I explained how our team has sung for people standing in line at a food bank, those who faced scary health problems at LAC-USC Hospital, and our work at the women’s shelter. I also brought one of our team members to sing a solo while I accompanied him at the piano. They loved Johnny’s solo so much that they asked him to sing an encore during their larger 11AM service.

At the end of the presentation the person who had invited me to speak came up to the lectern and thanked me on behalf of the audience saying, “Your presentation brought us hope for the future.”
